Session on Forensic Science
To strengthen the curriculum, by cross-curricular links and partnerships with the local community ,Science Department arranged a session with Dr.Amiri - Head of Laboratory of Criminal Science in Sharjah Police.
On the 25th of April 2012, the Science students of Grade 11 gathered for this very special interactive session with Dr.Amiri who explained the attributes a student must develop to work in the field of Forensic Sciences. He laid emphasis on observation skills, writing and speaking skills, reporting skills and the ability to work as a team.
The students were enlightened about different branches of Forensic Sciences such as Forensic Toxicology, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Biology, Firearms and Forgery.
Dr.Amiri showed the students the importance of taking finger prints and DNA from a crime scene and how a particular detail can change the entire perspective. He passed around bullets and shell casings which garnered enthusiasm among the students. The session concluded , with an elaborate explanation of each step taken by the Police Department in capturing culprits.
Overall, the nearly two hour session was highly informative and broadened the students' idea of various careers. There was a lot that the students took back home after the session. |
