Estimation at Kindergarten
Estimation is a great way to build number sense and talk math. The students of KG2 were introduced to the concept of ‘Estimation’ through an interactive activity conducted on the 28th of April 2020. They were able to identify the estimation as a process of making a thoughtful guess without counting the objects. Students were excited to look at the estimation jar and guess the number of objects in it, they recorded their observation and then counted to find the exact number of objects. The activity kept them moving around their house. They estimated the number of chickpeas in a handful, number of steps they need to take to reach the door, the number of pink dresses they have etc. The students were thrilled to estimate and then find the right counts.
The activity took the students a step closer to understanding numbers and its value.
