OOS Alumnae Career Guidance - Metanoia 2020

7th & 8th July 2020

"The future belongs to those who prepare for it today." – Malcolm X

The future always seems to be a rugged path ahead; filled with uncertainties, indecisiveness and confusion. But at OOS, we constantly find new ways of tackling all of that, and with the era of digital learning, spawned many virtual programs. Metanoia 2020 was one such successful event that our school held on the 7th and 8th of July for the students of Grades 11 and 12, respectively.

This unique venture was characterized by the key speakers being the very successful and esteemed alumnae of our school. 7th July saw Dr. Yesha Atul Shah (ENT Surgeon, LG Hospital-Ahmedabad), Ms. Vrunda Atul Shah (Engineer, Intel-Bangalore) and Dr. Syeda Sakeena Banu (Doctor, DHA - Al Warsan, Dubai) addressing the science stream students of Grade 11 while Ms. Ayesha Naseem (Co-Founder & CEO of Livewire) and Ms. Dhanusha Gokulan (Principal Correspondant, Khaleej Times) spoke to the commerce and humanities students of Grade 11. On 8th, Dr. Priyavrata Rajasubramanya (Senior Resident - General Surgery, Government Medical College-Kozhikode) and Ms. Vigneswari Muthukumaresan (Sales Engineer - Solar & Energy Storage, Panasonic-USA) spoke to the science students of Grade 12 and Ms. Dhanusha Gokulan, Ms. Priyanka Gupta (Consultant & Author, S P Jain-Bangalore)  and Ms. Huma Shaafie (Lecturer, Middlesex University-DXB) addressed the commerce and humanities students of Grade 12.

The alumnae enlightened the students in their areas of expertise, shared valuable school and college life stories and advised on future education and career matters. They enthusiastically answered all the students’ queries with vigor and passion. They also gave them the much-needed insight into the future and cleared all their doubts and provided them with confidence and reassurance to face the challenges lined up ahead. Among some of the valuable tips of ensuring their entrance into colleges - abroad, in India or here at UAE- was to maintain a well rounded resume/profile, have updated accounts in Linked In and to keep contact with college professors of your preference for guidance. They advised to have a well written personal statement for applying to colleges and include all personal achievement in it. It was also recommended to keep track of all the colleges students preferred to get into on a rank basis.

It was indeed a pleasure to hear them speak to the students. The students found it helpful as well as relatable to talk to the people who had once walked the same path as they are on right now. The students found themselves much more mentally prepared for their journey ahead. The OOS community eagerly waits for more such opportunities to connect, communicate and broaden horizons of the student body.
