The Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak award for Excellence, under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan is presented to GEMS female students across the Middle East.
Established by GEMS Education, in 2005, the award highlights Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak's role as mother of the nation, and her vision to celebrate and support women's achievements and self-determination.
The award celebrates female students who have proven themselves as global citizens, exhibited outstanding leadership qualities, exceptional academic achievements and commitment to the communities in which they live. The individual award winners become ambassadors for both their schools and GEMS.
Each year the award winners receive a scholarship for a full year's tuition at their GEMS School, as well as a memento commemorating the event.
This year Megha Vishnu from the Humanities stream was the proud recipient of this honor. She received the award from Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, at a ceremony held on Monday at the Gems Dubai American Academy. She believes she won the award due to her contribution to environmental activities and global citizenship and her academic excellence.
“ I think working without expecting any recognition or reward and a sense of attachment and dedication towards my school and striving to enrich it in whatever way possible by embodying the values it stands by is what enabled me to win this award. I consider the award as a huge honour given to me by the school and GEMS education for the work I’ve put in for the community,” Megha said.
